Reserved And Free Symbols Announced For 2025 Assam Panchayat Elections

 

GUWAHATI: The Assam State Election Commission released the list of 'Reserved' and 'Free' symbols for candidates contesting the 2025 Assam Panchayat Elections on Monday, December 30. The announcement was made in accordance with Rule 21 of the Assam Panchayat (Constitution) Rules, 1995, and the Election Symbols (Reservation and Allotment) Order, 1968, issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI).

Under these guidelines, 'Reserved' symbols are allocated for candidates sponsored by National or State Political Parties that have already been allotted specific symbols by the Election Commission of India. Meanwhile, 'Free' symbols are available for other independent candidates and will be allotted according to the established rules.

Reserved Symbols for National Parties include:

- Aam Aadmi Party: Broom
- Bahujan Samaj Party: Elephant
- Bharatiya Janata Party: Lotus
- Communist Party of India (M): Hammer, Sickle, and Star
- Indian National Congress: Hand
- National People’s Party: Book

Reserved Symbols for State Parties include:

- All India United Democratic Front: Lock & Key
- Asom Gana Parishad: Elephant
- Bodoland People's Front: Nangol
- United People's Party Liberal: Tractor

Candidates from these National and State parties will be allowed to use the corresponding ‘Reserved’ symbols during the election. Independent candidates or those not aligned with any political party can choose a ‘Free’ symbol from a list provided by the ECI.

The allocation of symbols is in compliance with the Assam Panchayat (Constitution) Rules, 1995, and the Election Symbols (Reservation and Allotment) Order, 1968, issued by the Election Commission of India.
