Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Wednesday, "APDCL has been profitable in the last two years, enabling the state government to reduce power tariffs. We achieved a profit of ₹600 crore through efficient management without replicating models from other states."
He further explained that the reduction would range from 50 paisa to ₹1.5, benefiting lower-middle-class households consuming less than 150 units of electricity per month. "If APDCL maintains its profit trend this year, we aim to reduce tariffs by an additional ₹1 in 2026," he added.
In addition, Sarma outlined plans for two 500 MW hydroelectric projects in Arunachal Pradesh and Bhutan. "Discussions are ongoing with both the Arunachal Pradesh and Bhutan governments. These projects will be owned by Assam, as there is no scope for hydro projects within the state itself," he stated.
