This action followed an earlier operation on October 16, where Hazarika, an Office Superintendent in the Excise Department, was apprehended near the main gate of Janata Bhawan in Dispur for accepting a bribe of ₹ 24,500 from a complainant in exchange for issuing a bar licence.
According to initial reports, Hazarika had initially demanded ₹1 lakh for the licence and had already received ₹40,000 as part of the bribe. The vigilance team, acting on a complaint, organised the operation and was present to witness the transaction.
Hazaika has now been taken into custody and further investigations are awaiting.
