Manikut Festival in Assam enter its 27th year

GUWAHATI: Over hundreds of people gathered for Manikut festival in Hajo, an ancient pilgrimage centre and town situated about 24 km west of Guwahati, while the majority of people in Assam celebrated Magh Bihu, an annual harvest festival with traditional fervour. 

The Manikut festival begun with a procession that started from Haigrib Madhav to Powa Mecca mosque where it was first initiated by the All Assam Students Union (AASU) in 1993 and completes 25 years of its inception.

The harmony march depicts the unity among different communities of Assam following the Babri Masjid case in Ayodhya. 

Among others, Paramananda Rajbongshi, the President of the Assam Sahitya Sabha and Lurin Jyoti Gogoi, General Secretary of AASU were present in the occasion. 

Several dance forms were showcased in this cultural procession.
