GUWAHATI: Around 300 students staged a protest at BRM Government Law College on April 25, 2024, expressing their grievances over various issues. The protest, which lasted from 9:45 a.m. to 2:00 pm., was sparked by the prolonged absence of electricity in the college since April 5, 2024.

On Tuesday, April 23, GPlus highlighted the many difficulties faced by the students of the college through an exclusive story. Students expressed their grievances to us, highlighting various issues plaguing the college.

Talking to GPlus, students highlighted a multitude of concerns, including the lack of drinking water facilities, non-functional toilets, unrepaired water boring systems, unpleasant odors in classrooms, failure to conduct events despite collecting funds from students, absence of union body elections, lack of Bar Council registration, and the non-issuance of identity cards for students.

Tapobrat Narayan Deb, a second-year BA LLB student, voiced his frustration, stating, "We have been without electricity in our college for the past few weeks. In addition to this, we are facing several other issues such as the absence of drinking water, clogged washrooms, and poor infrastructure. It's been a year since the last union body elections were held. Yesterday, when the authorities were informed about the Directorate of Higher Education officials' visit, they hastily cleaned the campus to cover up our complaints."

Another student seeking anonymity talking to GPlus, "It's time we raise our voices against the authorities who are neglecting their responsibilities. Without a properly elected union body, who will address our grievances? Although we technically have one, no elections have been held for the past year. This negligence is unacceptable."

Talking to GPlus, another second-year BA LLB student, questioned the validity of studying at a college that is not registered under the Bar Council of India, leading to a loss of confidence among students.
