Illicit Liquor Seized In Assam, Meghalaya

 

GUWAHATI: A substantial quantity of illicit liquor has been seized by the police in Kamrup (Metro) and Meghalaya in a joint operation, on April 9.

In view of the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, the excise departments of Kamrup Metropolitan district in Assam and Ri Bhoi district in Meghalaya collaborated to conduct a joint operation in various locations across both states resulting in the seizures.

The authorities confiscated approximately 50 litres of local liquor known as ‘Sulai,’ along with 1,600 kg of ‘fermented wash’ and about 27 litres of foreign liquor. It was revealed that the seized liquor was intended for smuggling and subsequent sale in Meghalaya.

Further investigations into the seized liquor and associated smuggling activities are under way.
