GUWAHATI: The engine of a machine boat had failed while ferrying passengers across the Brahmaputra river in Guwahati on Sunday.

However, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel rescued all passengers to safety near Kamakhya Hill. Three passengers had allegedly jumped in to the river, however they too were rescued by the SDRF team.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Jalukbari, Ponjit Dowarah took to Twitter to laud the efforts of the SDRF personnel. He tweeted, “It was really a wonderful work by SDRF/River Police as they rescued all passengers of a mechanised boat safely near Kamakhya Hill in Guwahati.

The engine of the boat had malfunctioned and had been drifted away by the strong current of the Brahmaputra.”
