Guwahati: Digital Information Nerve Centre launched at SCI

GUWAHATI: State health and family welfare minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday inaugurated Digital Information Nerve Centre at State Cancer Institute (SCI), in the presence of Ratan Tata. 

Tata Trust has brought in experts to establish in-facility Hospital Management Information System & state wide patient and clinical support nerve center at SCI.

This initiative will help patients to access healthcare facilities at doorstep & enable virtual linkage with experts across India for consultation & treatment planning.

Earlier on Saturday, the minister had announced that Govt of Assam will set up a non profit foundation for cancer research and treatment in collaboration with Tata Trust. It will be called Assam Cancer Care Foundation.

The foundation will provide three-tier cancer treatment in the state. 

"It's important for govt of Assam to detect cancer cases at an early stage and provide proper treatment. According to Indian Council of Medical Research, every year 31825 new cancer cases are detected in Assam. 70% patients face mortality because of lack of treatment or late diagnosis," said Sarma.

The foundation will be set up with a 50-50 partnership of Government of Assam and Tata Trust. It will be set up with an initial capital of Rs 1910 cr in which Tata Trust will provide Rs 830 cr and Assam govt will give Rs 1910 cr grant.

The foundation will have 6 trustees- 3 each from Assam Government and Tata Trust. 

Health and family welfare minister of Assam govt will be the chairman of the foundation and principal secretary health and additional chief secretary finance will be the members.

Under the project, on June 18, foundation stone laying ceremony of 19 new cancer centres will be held in the presence of CM, BJP national president  Amit Shah and Ratan Tata at Khanapara Veterinary Ground.
