GUWAHATI: Home Minister Amit Shah has announced in the Rajya Sabha that the government has decided to repeal Article 370 of the Constitution which grants special status to Jammu & Kashmir on August 5.

Shah’s announcement was immediately followed by a massive uproar in the Upper House with opposition MPs protesting in the Well of the House.

Mehbooba Mufti taking to Twiiter said “Today marks the darkest day in Indian democracy. Decision of J&K leadership to reject 2 nation theory in 1947 & align with India has backfired. Unilateral decision of GOI to scrap Article 370 is illegal & unconstitutional which will make India an occupational force in J&K."

It is to be mentioned that Amit Shah also proposes making a separate Union Territory for Jammu and Kashmir with the Legislature. However the Union territory of Ladakh will be without legislature.
