GUWAHATI: In the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) presents Sarbananda Sonowal as a prominent candidate vying for the Dibrugarh constituency. At 62 years old, Sonowal brings a wealth of experience and qualifications to Assam politics.
Educationally, Sonowal holds an LLB from Gauhati University, obtained in 1996, along with a Bachelor of Communication and Journalism from Guwahati University in the same year.

Sonowal has served in various capacities over the years:
• From 2001 to 2004, he served as an MLA representing Moran.
• Subsequently, from 2004 to 2009, he represented Dibrugarh as a Member of Parliament.
• From 2012 to 2014, Sonowal held the position of President of BJP Assam.
• In 2014, he served as an MP for Lakhimpur and held dual responsibilities as the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Skill Development Entrepreneurship and the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports.
• In 2016, Sonowal assumed the role of Chief Minister of Assam, also representing Majuli as an MLA.
• Currently, he serves as an MLA for Majuli and holds ministerial portfolios for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, as well as AYUSH.
• Additionally, since 2021, Sonowal has been a Member of Parliament for Rajya Sabha.
