Originally from Digboi in Assam, Baruah had settled in the UK since the late 1970s. He founded a design firm, Plus One Design, in central London, which became well known for its creative work. Despite being far from home, Baruah remained connected to his roots through his early contributions, most notably the tourism logo that is still in use today.

He studied science at Cotton College in Guwahati and then pursued Commercial Art at the Sir J.J. School of Art in Mumbai. It was during this time that he designed the Assam Tourism logo, now seen across the state’s official travel promotions and branding.

Baruah’s work was not limited to one region or one era. Over the years, his designs gained recognition across continents, and his studio in London became a respected name in the design community.

He is survived by his wife and a son. His death has been widely mourned, especially in artistic circles.
