GUWAHATI: Acting on the report of maoists planning a plot to assassinate Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a "Rajiv Gandhi-type incident", the Assam police have started to verify the Assam-Maoist link.

Assam DGP talking to media informed that issues are being looked into by the special force and all the inputs are being verified by field level intelligence.

DPG Kula Saikia said, “I will be able to comment only when things are verified”.

Earlier, a letter which was addressed to one Comrade Prakash which is suspected to be the code name for Rituparna Goswami, a known Maoist, was recovered by the Pune Police from the laptop of one Rona Wilson who was arrested in connection with the Bhima-Koregaon caste clashes.

The letter revealed a plot to assassinate Modi in a "Rajiv Gandhi-type incident" during one of his road shows.

Police have confirmed that Goswami hails from Assam and is presently absconding.

Goswami is said to have completed his PhD from the Jawaharlal Nehru University and joined the underground cadre of the Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) Liberation.
