Assam Budget: Rs. 200 Crores earmarked for Scholarship of Minority Girls

GUWAHATI: Speaking at the Budget 2019-20 meeting, Himanta Biswa Sarma said that in 2016, the citizens of the state had given them a “vote of confidence & a mandate to usher in ‘parivartan.’” the Assam budget 2019-20 broadly focuses on the areas of capital expenditure and social security.  

Speaking at the Budget, Sarma said that a scheme is being introduced to strengthen education of girls belonging to the minority community. The scheme, ‘Minority Girls Scholarship Scheme’  aims to encourage girls to continue their higher education. 

A budget of Rs. 200 Crores has been earmarked for the ‘Minority Girls Scholarship Scheme,’ and the nuances of the scheme are being worked out by the Education Department.

The scheme is likely to be launched in the new financial year.
