GUWAHATI: Going by the order of the week of phone scam incidents, Monsoon Doley, a resident of Guwahati, lost over Rs 1 Lakh after online fraudsters transacted money from three of her bank accounts.

Doley gave a call to a Google listed E-Commerce customer care number for a refund as she was not being able to get contact details on the company’s website.

According to reports, the victim called the number available in the Google and the customer care executive said that due to some technical glitch they will not be able to refund the money via e-wallet hence they would require the victims phone number for payment via Google Pay.

However, the customer allegedly refused to share her phone number but the sleight minded executive asked her to call back from her registered phone number wherein they sent her a link with a form where she had to fill details like Transaction Id, Name and Phone Number. After clicking the link and in the verge of filling the form she got a notification from SBI that her account has been debited.  After a few minutes she got another message that money was debited from two of her HDFC bank accounts as her phone number was linked with all the accounts.

She lost over Rs. 1 lakh to the cyber criminals.

The victim has lodged an FIR in Bhangagarh and Basistha Police Station and more details in this regard are awaited.
Recently there has been a rise in such phone scam incidents with the same modus operandi.

Earlier this month, Bhaswati Pathak, a resident of Guwahati was cheated after she tried to book a table at Isle Natura, a popular resort in Panikhaiti. Around Rs. 10,000 was fraudulently withdrawn from her account when she called the resort’s number, as listed on Google (7632098518).

Similarly, around Rs. 23,000 was withdrawn from Surabhi Sharma’s account after she tried to book a table at Mocha, a popular cafe in the city.
