World No Tobacco Day observed at Srimanta Shankardev Kalakshetra

A campaign with the theme “Tobacco – a threat to development” was observed on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day at Srimanta Shankardev Kalakshetra on Wednesday.

 

During the event, it came to light that out of total population of Assam, 85 lakh uses tobacco in some form or the other. Out of which 35 lakh people died of it – said Dr Amal Ch Kakati, Director of Dr B. Baruah Cancer Institute.

 

Addressing at a huge gathering in the auditorium Deputy Commissioner Kamrup (M) Dr. M. Amgamuthu expressed his views in support of need of this kind of programme. He also asked the officials to make a habit to visit school in this purpose. He also appealed for wholehearted support from every corner of the society to make it tobacco free. He also expressed his views against the selling of various forms of tobacco.  MLA East Guwahati S. Bhattacharyya also delivered the speech on this occasion and spoke about the harmful affects of tobacco.
