Vishwakarma Puja To Be Celebrated On September 18 This Year

GUWAHATI: Vishwakarma Puja is a day dedicated to celebrating Vishwakarma, the revered Hindu deity known as the divine architect.

The festival is predominantly observed in industrial settings, especially on factory floors and is a day of homage not only for engineers and architects but also for artisans, craftsmen, mechanics, smiths, welders, industrial labourers, and various other professions.

Vishwakarma Puja typically coincides with the 'Kanya Sankranti' in the Hindu calendar and generally occurs annually between September 16 and 18 in the Gregorian calendar. This celebration takes place on the last day of the Indian Bhadra month.

This year, the last day of Bhadra month has fallen on Monday which is September 18.

While talking to G Plus, a priest from Guwahati explained the change in date. He said, “Most years, the 31st Bhadra coincides with September 17 and hence, Vishwakarma Puja has been celebrated on the day but this year the date falls on September 18, so the celebration will fall on Monday.”

“The tithi will continue till 10:32 AM on Monday. Within this time, the puja has to be completed,” the priest further added.

Guwahati markets are decked up with Vishwakarma idols and decorations and people can be seen buzzing in the market to do the puja shopping and artisans giving last-minute touches to the idols. Garages, printing presses, offices and other places have started cleaning and decorating their premises, ready to welcome Lord Vishwakarma.
