Assam Govt Launches ₹2,529 Crore ASSIST Scheme To Improve Secondary Healthcare

 

GUWAHATI: The Assam government has unveiled the Assam State Secondary Healthcare Initiative for Service Delivery Transformation (ASSIST), which aims to overhaul the state’s healthcare infrastructure.

This initiative was revealed by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday, December 4.

“Through the ASSIST scheme, a ₹2,529cr project to improve our healthcare institutions, we are building 10 new district hospitals which will add another 1,150 beds in our State to offer treatment to patients,” Sarma posted on X.

ASSIST is also set to upgrade 25 existing hospitals to enhance secondary healthcare access, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas.

The 10 new district hospitals include a 150-bedded hospital in Kaliabor and 100-bedded facilities in Dudhnoi, Sarukhetri, Kaliapani, Narayanapur, Azara, Lakhipur, Abhayapuri, and Bajali, as well as a 200-bedded hospital in Dibrugarh.
