Vikram Lander Successfully Separates From Chandrayaan-2 Orbiter

GUWAHATI: Vikram Lander successfully separated from Chandrayaan-2 Orbiter at 1:15 pm on Monday, September 2.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) said that the Vikram Lander is currently located in an orbit of 119 km x 127 km. The Chandrayaan-2 Orbiter continues to orbit the Moon in its existing orbit.

“Vikram Lander Successfully separates from #Chandrayaan2 Orbiter today (September 02, 2019) at 1315 hrs IST,” tweeted ISRO.

“The health of the Orbiter and Lander is being monitored from the Mission Operations Complex (MOX) at ISRO Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) in Bengaluru with support from Indian Deep Space Network (IDSN) antennas at Bylalu, near Bengaluru. All the systems of Chandrayaan-2 Orbiter and Lander are healthy,” said ISRO in a statement.

Prior to this, the fourth lunar bound orbit manoeuvre for Chandrayaan-2 spacecraft was performed successfully on August 30.

The ambitious mission of ISRO lifted off from Sriharikota today, July 22, in the afternoon at 2.43 pm.

Chandrayaan 2 took off aboard the most powerful GSLV-Mk-III rocket.
