Third Phase Of Lok Sabha Elections Concludes In Assam With High Voter Turnout

 

GUWAHATI: The third phase of Lok Sabha elections 2024 concluded in Assam with a voter turnout of 81.61 percent recorded at 5 pm today, May 7.

With eligible voters reaching their respective polling booths defying unfavourable weather conditions in the form of drizzles, the constituencies of Guwahati along with Kokrajhar (ST), Dhubri, and Barpeta, saw a significant surge in the voter turnout percentage since morning.

Amongst the candidates, everyone is keenly focusing on the important Guwahati seat, where both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress have nominated female candidates – Bijuli Kalita Medhi and Mira Borthakur Goswami, respectively. The leading candidates from Dhubri are Badruddin Ajmal and Rakibul Hussain. The hopes of Kokrajhar rest on Garjan Mashahary, Joyanta Basumatary, and Gauri Shankar Sarania. Barpeta has also concluded its participation in the third phase shouldering its dreams on the likes of Abul Kalam Azar, Samej Uddin, Phani Bhusan Choudhury, and Deep Bayan. The outcome will be decided by 47 candidates competing to win in these four constituencies whose aspirations have been sealed today.

The first phase of the elections in Assam saw a voter turnout of 71.38%, and the second phase of Lok Sabha Elections recorded 77.35% of the voter turnout.
