GUWAHATI: Two persons from Meghalaya were arrested from the Railway General Manager Office, Maligaon today, on charges of producing fake appointment letters. The letters were for the post of Gateman, Indian Railways for Tinsukia Division.
The railway officials were surprised to find joining letters and identity cards from the duo. The story takes an interesting turn once the guys started spilling beans. Both the accused Kapil Thakuri and Sunil Kumar Sharma hail from a village in Lower Lumparing, Laban, East Khasi Hills, Meghalaya. Interestingly, Sunil Kumar came on behalf of his cousin Pappu Kumar Thakur who is unwell and was unable to report for joining formalities.
On questioning, it was found that they had procured the appointment letters, joining letters and identity cards by paying a total of Rs. 4,80,000 to multiple persons. They named one Samir Majumdar of village Upper Lumparing, Laban, East Khasi Hills. Money was also paid to Nabajyoti Saikia and Umesh Baidya who are from Samaguri, Nagaon.
The accused along with the all the seized documents were handed over to the Jalukbari Police Station. A case is yet to be registered.
