GUWAHATI: City police apprehended one trader of Nagaon for selling Banarasi clothes in the name of Assam silk on October 19.
According to reports, the accused identified as Mahesh Kumar Poddar was carrying the clothes to sell in the Fancy Bazar market, when caught hold of him and handed over to the Fancy Bazar Police.
Meanwhile, police have seized a bag full of Banarasi clothes made in the replica of Assam Silk of Sualkuchi.
Reportedly, there are many Banarasi clothes in the godowns of Guwahati which are controlled by businessmen of other states.
