Holidays Declared In Assam For Lok Sabha Elections

 

GUWAHATI: The Assam government has announced public holidays on April 19, April 26 and May 7 for the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections.

This declaration comes under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, in conjunction with the Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs Notification No. 20/25/Pub-I, dated June 8th, 1957.

The public holidays are scheduled to coincide with the General Election to the Lok Sabha, 2024, across specified parliamentary constituencies. The constituencies encompass Kaziranga, Sonitpur, Lakhimpur, Dibrugarh, and Jorhat in the first phase on April 19.

Similarly, April 26 will be a holiday for Darrang-Udalguri, Diphu, Karimganj, Silchar, and Nagaon in the second phase. Finally, Korajhar, Dhubri, Barpeta, and Guwahati will have a holiday on May 7 in the third phase.

All government and non-government offices, Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs), urban local bodies, educational institutions, business establishments, commercial entities, banks, tea gardens, and industries falling within the jurisdiction of the mentioned parliamentary constituencies will remain closed on the designated public holidays. The decision aims to facilitate the smooth conduct of the electoral process and ensure the participation of citizens in exercising their democratic rights during the Lok Sabha elections.
