Wanted Jihadi Arrested In Assam's Dhubri

 

GUWAHATI: In a breakthrough under ‘Operation Praghat,’ the Special Task Force (STF) Assam arrested one of the most-wanted jihadi and Islamic extremist, Jaheer Ali, on charges of involvement in fundamentalist and global terrorist activities on January 19.

Jaheer Ali, son of Baher Ali (SK), hails from Khudigaon Pt. 2 village in Bilasipara, Dhubri district of Assam.  

During the course of investigations into STF Assam Police Station Case No. 21/2024, authorities had previously arrested 12 individuals, including Bangladeshi nationals, for their involvement in extremist activities.  

According to official reports, these individuals were operating under the direction of Md. Farhan Israk, a close associate of Jasimuddin Rahmani, the leader of the Ansarullah Bangla Team, a known extremist organisation. One Bangladeshi national, Md. Sad Radi alias Shab Seikh from Rajshahi, Bangladesh, was also sent to India with the objective of spreading extremist ideologies among like-minded individuals across the country.  

During the operation, the STF also seized a substantial cache of arms, ammunition, explosives, mobile phones, and various incriminating documents from the possession of the arrested individuals.  

Investigations are ongoing to identify further links and dismantle extremist networks in the region.
