Top Cop G P Singh from NIA brought to Guwahati to oversee Law and Order responsibilities

GUWAHATI: GP Singh, the Inspector General of National Investigation Agency, India has been deputed to Assam amidst rising protests in the Guwahati and other parts of the state against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2019. The NIA top brass will oversee the L&O (Law and Order) situation across the state.

Guwahati has quickly emerged as the epicentre of the protests with a large number people taking to the streets, despite the curfew.

Guwahati Police Commissioner, Deepak Kumar earlier told the media that the curfew has been imposed in Guwahati (Assam) starting 6:15 pm on 11 December and will be in effect until normalcy is restored in the city.

Internet services by telecom operators were also shut down amidst the mass protests.
