Thunderstorm And Heavy Rainfall Alert Over Assam, Other Northeast States

GUWAHATI: Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy showers and thunderstorms, because of a cyclonic circulation looming over East Assam and the neighbourhood upto 0.9 km above mean sea level.

IMD has also predicted light to moderate spells of rainfall with chances of sporadic thunderstorms raging over most places of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya.

This trend is observed similarly in other neighbouring states also, such as Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.

The seven-day weather forecast by the Regional Weather Forecasting Centre, Guwahati has predicted partly cloudy weather throughout the week in the city, with a chance of occasional rain spells and storms.

Though this does come as a great relief for the residents of Guwahati as they hope for some respite from the oncoming summer heat, it also spells an emergency for the residents of the states, owing to heavy shower perils.

The Government has issued yellow to orange alerts in and around the susceptible parts of the Northeastern states as mentioned above for heavy rainfall and has asked for the residents to remain alert.
