GUWAHATI: Social media influencer Sumi Borah and her husband Tarkik Borah, alleged key figures in the multi-crore Assam investment scam, were arrested after they surrendered to the police in Dibrugarh on September 12 after being on the run since the scandal emerged.

Prior to turning herself in, Sumi Borah addressed the allegations on social media, calling them "baseless and fabricated."
The Assam Police had been actively searching for the couple, and earlier this week, Tarkik Borah’s brother, Amlan Borah, was arrested in Bihar. Authorities also seized a vehicle registered in Tarkik Borah’s name in Meghalaya as part of the ongoing investigation.
Phukan allegedly used Borah's connections in the Assamese film industry to attract clients for his company. Borah was also involved in convincing influential people to invest in Phukan's online trading scheme, promising high returns.
Sumi Borah and Tarkik Borah were married last year in a lavish destination wedding in Udaipur, Rajasthan. The wedding was attended by many from the Assamese film industry, with costs covered by Bishal Phukan, who reportedly spent around ₹5 crore on the event.
