The notice has called upon ULFA to explain why it should not be declared an unlawful association for a period of five years, effective from November 27, 2024. This development has followed a Gazette notification (No. S.O. 5053(E)) dated November 25, 2024.
According to the notice, ULFA has been directed to submit its objections, reply, or written statement within 30 days from the date of receiving the notice. The organisation must respond in writing, detailing why it should not be adjudicated and declared as an unlawful association under the provisions of the UAPA.
ULFA has also been asked to appear before the tribunal either through a duly authorised representative or legal counsel. The hearing is scheduled for March 4 at 3 PM in Gauhati High Court (Old Block).
The tribunal will consider ULFA’s response before making a final decision on whether to officially declare the group unlawful.
