The Assam government is reaffirming its commitment to palm oil cultivation to reduce dependence on edible oil imports. Bora emphasised that palm oil production could significantly cut both Assam’s and India’s reliance on edible oil imports, a major concern for the country.

Speaking at an event in Cachar district, Bora reportedly stated, "The government's primary goal is to achieve self-sufficiency in edible oil through enhanced palm oil cultivation, which is the need of the hour."
