Three Arrested In Gang Rape Case Near Guwahati

 

GUWAHATI: The police have apprehended three individuals in connection with a gang rape incident that took place on the night of January 25 in Sonapur. 

The arrest happened on Wednesday, January 29.

The accused, identified as Lakshyadhar Tumung, Harkanta Kaman, and Gopal Subba, were arrested following a complaint lodged by the victim, a young woman from North Guwahati, at Changsari Police Station.

The woman had visited Sonapur with a friend when the assault occurred. The victim's female friend, a resident of Gouripur has been accused of involvement in the incident. She allegedly took the victim to a hotel in the Sonapur area, where the alleged individuals mixed an intoxicating substance in her food. She was kept at the hotel overnight and subjected to sexual assault without her consent.

The police then launched an investigation and tracked down and arrested the three suspects from the area. The case has been registered at Sonapur Police Station, and authorities are conducting a thorough investigation to gather further evidence.

Talking to GPlus, a police official from Sonapur police station said, “We nabbed the individuals yesterday and are further investigating the matter. The victim’s friend involved is a minor.”
