But before the media could actually start reporting about the rape charges levelled against him, it seems the storm is almost over. Here are the highs and lows of the case:

•    On Saturday, 11th August, Minister of State (MoS) for Railways Rajen Gohain denied the rape charges. The minister called it a political conspiracy which props up when election year nears.

•    According to him similar false allegations were levelled against him in 2011 and 2016.

•    Gohain has filed complaints of blackmailing against the said woman and her family.

•    On 2nd August, a case against Gohain was filed in Nagaon for allegedly raping a woman

•    The Police admitted to the case being filed.

•    Allegations flew left and right that the police have undermined the case as it involved the union minister.

•    The case blew up only when it started spreading in various social media platforms.

•    An audio clip started circulating where it was alleged that Gohain was threatening the victim’s husband with dire consequences. It’s authenticity yet to be ascertained.

•    Nagaon Police had filed a case against Gohain for allegedly raping a woman.

•    The complaint says that the alleged incident took place seven to eight months ago.

•    The case was registered after the woman filed a complaint against him on August 2.

•    The FIR was registered under IPC sections 417 (cheating), 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation).

•    Interestingly the Nagaon police have informed that the victim lady pleaded in the court that the case should withdrawn.

•    She has also refused to go for medical examination.

•    According to reports, the said victim expressed that there was some misunderstanding and it has now been resolved.

•    Latest development is: The husband of the said victim has comes forward with a Facebook video requesting everyone not to spread the news further as it was a family matter and has been sorted out.

•    As of now we can say that there is no case against the minister.

•    Well the police does not think so: "case still stands, we will do our own investigation".
