GUWAHATI: The termination of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati rape accused from the institution has been withdrawn following a court order by the Gauhati High Court (HC).

The Gauhati HC in an order dated on October 7, 2021, said that the "learned senior counsel for the respondents in the IIT, upon instruction, has made a statement that the authorities in the IIT would like to proceed against the petitioner by giving adequate opportunity as required under the law. In view of such statement, it is to be understood that the impugned order of termination would not be acted upon. However, it would be open for the respondents in the IIT to proceed in any manner by following any procedure and any requirement as may be available under the law."

Earlier, the IIT Guwahati had expelled the student accused of raping a female student following a meeting by the IIT Senate. The Gauhati HC on August 23 granted bail to the B.Tech student in the connection.
