₹1,460 Crore Worth Guwahati Sewerage Project Gets Approval

GUWAHATI: An administrative approval has been granted for the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)-assisted Guwahati Sewerage Project (187 MLD) during the Cabinet Meeting on January 7, to enhance urban infrastructure and ensure a sustainable environment. 

This initiative aims to introduce well-planned sewerage collection and treatment facilities in Guwahati. The project, slated to be implemented in phases, has an allocated budget of ₹1,460.37 crore for the execution of Phase I. 

The key components of the project include three sewage treatment plants:
-    Silsako Beel (65 MLD)
-    Borsola Beel (62 MLD)
-    Paschim Boragaon (60 MLD)

The total length of the sewerage network will span 872 km, with an additional 1.191 km utilising trenchless methods. Approximately 1.10 lakh households in South-Central Guwahati will benefit from this initiative. Furthermore, the project includes the establishment of a Faecal Sludge & Septage Treatment Plant with a capacity of 40 KLD.
