PM Modi to Chair IIT Guwahati's Convocation as Chief Guest

GUWAHATI: Amid the dreaded pandemic, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG) is all set to hold its 22nd convocation, albeit virtually.

The convocation will be held on 22nd September with PM Narendra Modi as the Chief Guest.

The other guests of honour include Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal, Minister of State for Education Sanjay Dhotre with CM Sarbananda Sonowal as a special guest.

What is unique about this virtual convocation is that the students will be present as virtual avatars on the occasion rather than physically.

The avatars of the award recipients will be receiving medals in the virtual reality-based award distribution ceremony. The medals will be presented by the Avatar of IITG Director.

There will also be a virtual photo booth with options of different backgrounds for students to take pictures. Further, a tele-presence module has also been created for a virtual visit to the institute.

The convocation ceremony will be streamed live on YouTube and Facebook.

Earlier, IIT Bombay and Gandhinagar had also hosted similar virtual convocation ceremonies.
