GUWAHATI: The internet services in Guwahati will be restored on December 18 from 9 am. The services were suspended on December 11 after the protests against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) intensified across the city and state.
The broadband internet services were restored across the state from Tuesday morning.
As per reports, the news about the restoration of the services comes after a PIL was lodged by a senior city-based journalist at the Gauhati High Court (GHC) for early possible restoration of the phone internet services from today itself, i.e., 17th December. Responding to the PIL, the Gauhati High Court observed that the restoration may be effected today by 3 PM. The government, in turn, stated that services will be restored tomorrow as per its earlier announcement.
Given the government’s response to the GHC, any further extension of the suspension of phone internet services in the state seems unlikely.
