Over 1 Lakh Households To Get Smart Meters In Assam

GUWAHATI: The Assam Cabinet has greenlit several proposals aimed at electrifying remaining un-electrified households and supporting the development of solar power projects, including smart metering for 1,12,906 unelectrified households. The decisions were taken during a cabinet meeting held on March 10, 2024.

Electrification of Un-electrified Households:

•    The cabinet approved a proposal for the electrification of remaining un-electrified households across Assam under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS). This initiative is expected to benefit 1,12,206 un-electrified households under RDSS. Administrative approval was granted for an additional Detailed Project Report (DPR) with a total estimated cost of ₹955 crore. This includes provisions for smart metering, distribution infrastructure works, and a corresponding state share of ₹204.63 crore.

Issuance of Sovereign Guarantee for Solar Power Project:

•    The cabinet also approved the issuance of a Sovereign Guarantee to banks on behalf of the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL). This guarantee will facilitate the necessary issue of the Connectivity Bank Guarantee-2 (Conn BG-2) to the Central Transmission Utility of India (CTUIL). The Conn BG-2 is required for granting connectivity to the proposed '1000 MW Solar Power Plant' in Lahorighat, Karbi Anglong, under the Mukhya Mantri Sauro Shakti Prokolpo initiative. APDCL will furnish the Connectivity BG-2 equal to the estimated cost of the Associated Transmission System, amounting to ₹214 crores, to CTUIL under the 1000 MW Solar Project.
