GUWAHATI: The Government of India has approved the project for a Rail-cum-Road Bridge across Brahmaputra river near the existing Saraighat bridge in Guwahati at the cost of ₹996.75 Crore. It will be the third bridge at Saraighat. The other two existing bridges over Saraighat are a road bridge and a rail-cum-road bridge.
On completion, the new bridge will connect the North bank of Assam to the South bank i.e. Guwahati across the Brahmaputra river. This was informed by Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways, Government of India.
"The project for Rail-cum-Road Bridge across Brahmaputra river near the existing Saraighat bridge at Guwahati has been approved at the cost of Rs. 996.75 Cr which will be shared by NHAI & Ministry of Railways. Also cost of approaches/viaducts: Rs. 322 Cr. will be entirely built by NHAI," tweeted Gadkari on September 28.
