Mob Lynching Kills Alleged Cattle Thief In Morigaon

 

GUWAHATI: A man accused of cattle smuggling faced severe injuries ultimately leading to his death, following an assault by locals on January 17 in Kumoi village, Morigaon, Assam. 

The accused, identified as Jitu Das from Karbi Anglong district, was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition but, unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries.

The incident transpired in the early hours amidst heavy foggy weather conditions, as the accused allegedly attempted to steal cattle from a residence. However, his plan took an unexpected turn when the residents of the house woke up and sought help from neighbours.

While the locals managed to apprehend the individual suspected of smuggling cattle, two of his accomplices successfully fled the scene with two numbers of cattle. The enraged crowd subjected the alleged cattle smuggler to severe assault.

Talking to GPlus, a police officer from Jagiroad police station said, “The incident occurred early morning today, where Jitu was beaten up by the locals on suspicion of cattle theft. He succumbed to his injuries. We are now further investigating the matter.”

Following police intervention, the accused was transported to a hospital.

Despite medical efforts, he was ultimately declared dead by the attending doctors.
