GUWAHATI: Several members of the Hynniewtrep National Youth Federation (HNYF), a pressure group in Meghalaya, were detained by the police in East Khasi Hills district for not allowing Assam-registered tourist vehicles from going to Dawki and Sohra, on Friday, July 26.

The vehicles were stopped at Umtyngngar. Police arrived at the spot after receiving information and subsequently detained 10 members of the group.
The HNYF had earlier imposed a ban on Assam tourist taxis from proceeding to the tourist spots in the state in the interest of the local taxis. The drivers’ union had also earlier raised a similar demand.
