GUWAHATI: An operation by the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) outpost police led to the arrest of a 27-year-old man, Hafiz Ali, from Sonapur in Dhemaji, Assam, for allegedly transporting a large consignment of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) early morning on November 9. Acting on an intelligence input, authorities intercepted Ali around 5 a.m. as he arrived at ISBT with a bag purportedly containing counterfeit currency for delivery to an unidentified party.

Upon searching Ali’s bag, the police discovered a significant haul of counterfeit currency notes in ₹500 denominations. In total, 12,116 notes were seized, amounting to a staggering ₹60,58,000. The currency was subsequently seized following standard procedures, with witnesses present to ensure transparency.
According to officials involved in the operation, Ali and the confiscated materials were taken to the ISBT outpost for further processing. “We acted swiftly upon receiving the tip-off, and the suspect was apprehended without resistance,” an officer stated.
Authorities have indicated that further steps are being taken, though details regarding Ali's potential connections or the intended recipient of the counterfeit currency remain undisclosed. Police are currently investigating whether this incident is part of a larger FICN network operating in Assam or beyond.
