GUWAHATI: The Kopili river, which is a major tributary of the Brahmaputra, is currently flowing at "extreme flood stage" at Kampur in Nagaon district of Assam, says the Water Resources Department in its flood advisory for North East states on Tuesday, June 21.
The extreme flood stage is a water level that is above the highest ever reported water level of a particular river and area.
The water level of the Kopili in Kampur stood at 62.06 metre as recorded at 9 AM today, which is 1.56 metre above the danger mark and 0.27 metre above the previous High Flood Level (HFL) of 61.79 metre. The trend is steadily increasing even though the Water Resources Department predicts that the water will recede by today evening.
The Brahmaputra's water level in Guwahati continues to be above the Danger Level mark at 49.88 metres.
The Water Resources Department's Flood Forecast says that the trend is steadily falling in Guwahati. The Brahmaputra in Guwahati rose to its highest water level yesterday morning at 49.95 metres .
Currently, the Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger level at Nimatighat, Tezpur, Guwahati, Goalpara and Dhubri.
