GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma provided an update on the progress of the Jorhat-Majuli bridge, indicating that the construction is proceeding as planned and is anticipated to conclude by April 2026. This significant infrastructure project, amounting to ₹957 crore, is poised to enhance connectivity in the region.

The Jorhat-Majuli bridge, a crucial initiative in Assam, is progressing steadily, with 20 per cent of the work already completed. CM Sarma expressed confidence that by the onset of the monsoon season, at least 35 per cent of the project would be accomplished.

"We shall achieve 35 per cent progress in the bridge. We need 72 wells for the bridge. Barring two wells, work is progressing on the other wells. Casting airwork is going on both sides," Sarma told media.

Upon completion of the bridge, road construction on both sides, amounting to ₹400 crore, is slated to commence in 2024. The 6.8-kilometer two-lane bridge, inclusive of approach roads between Majuli (Kamalabari) and Jorhat (Nimati Ghat), is a vital infrastructure development expected to significantly enhance connectivity in the upper Assam region by linking Majuli, the world's largest river island, with the mainland.

The project aims to bridge geographical gaps, facilitate smoother transportation, and contribute to the overall development of the region.
