GUWAHATI: Two passenger ferries collided at the Aphalamukh Ghat in Assam’s Majuli district early on Friday morning, April 11. Both vessels were reportedly carrying a significant number of commuters at the time of the incident.

The mishap occurred at approximately 8:30 AM, prompting immediate rescue efforts.
Speaking to GPlus, a senior police official from Majuli confirmed, “The incident took place at 8:30 AM. Fortunately, there were no casualties. SDRF helped to rescue everyone and the situation was under control promptly.”
Personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were quick to arrive at the spot and managed to bring the situation under control without any loss of life. Local authorities have initiated a preliminary inquiry to ascertain the cause of the collision.
The ferry services at Aphalamukh Ghat are a vital mode of transport for residents of the river island Majuli, especially during peak hours.
Officials said that a more detailed investigation will follow to examine whether operational lapses or mechanical issues led to the accident.
