GUWAHATI: The Inspector of Schools, Kamrup (Metro), has issued show-cause notices to five government-run high schools in Guwahati after their performance in the 2025 High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) Examination fell below expectations. The results were declared on Friday, April 11.

The schools served notices are Barsojai High School, Maligaon High School, NPME High School, Pilingkata High School, and Dispur Government High School. All five institutions recorded pass percentages below 25.

In the notice dated April 11, Inspector of Schools Dipika Choudhury stated that the low results reflect a serious lack of commitment and indicate possible lapses in school-level administration and academic supervision.

"The schools have not been performing up to expectations, which is a serious matter of concern, discouraging the student community," the notice said. It further stated that the poor results point toward a failure in ensuring quality education and accountability.

The principals and headmasters of the concerned schools have been asked to submit a detailed explanation within five days, failing which disciplinary action may be initiated.

The notices have also been forwarded to the Assam State School Education Board, the Director of Secondary Education, and the Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup (Metro) for further review.

The HSLC 2025 showed a statewide pass percentage of 63.98, with several government schools falling behind private institutions in terms of performance.
