Incessant rains wreak havoc in Assam

GUWAHATI: Nearly 1.50 lakh people have been affected by the first wave of the flood that hit Assam with six districts currently reeling under the deluge since monsoon hit the state early this month.

The affected districts are Golaghat, Karbi Anglong East, Karbi Anglong West, Biswanath, Karimganj and Hailakandi.

Districts in Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong have being disrupted in many places and the people facing trouble in their day-to-day life in the last couple of days.

In West Karbi Anglong, the Dongkamukam-Kheroni PWD road is reeling under flood water and the vehicular movement has come to a standstill for the last 12 hours. 

The people of Telohor area are having a harrowing time in communicating through the road, particularly women and school students.

More than 10,000 people including 3,941 children from flood-hit districts have taken shelter in 71 relief camps.
