15 Rescued Himalayan Vultures Released In Kamrup

 

GUWAHATI: As a part of a collaborative effort between the Assam Forest Department and the Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS), 15 Himalayan vultures were released on Monday, April 29.

Rescued during March and April 2024, these vultures underwent care and rehabilitation at the Vulture Conservation Breeding Centre (VCBC) in Belguri, Assam, ensuring their recovery and return to optimal health.

As migratory birds, they are anticipated to commence their homeward journey in the coming days. 

Ahead of their release on April 29, each vulture underwent thorough health assessments by veterinary experts at the VCBC.

The transfer of these rehabilitated birds from their holding aviaries to the release site was coordinated, employing transportation boxes and supervised by a team comprising veterinarians, biologists, and officials from the forest department.

The release ceremony was graced by esteemed officials including Dimpi Bora IFS, DFO Kamrup West, and Range Forest Officers (RFOs) Dipan Deka, Kulsi, and Shamim Akhatar from Loharghat.
