GUWAHATI: Professor Chandan Mahanta, a distinguished academician, and scientist, passed away at the age of 61 on Tuesday at his residence within the IIT Guwahati campus.
Professor Mahanta battled Glioblastoma, a rare and aggressive form of brain tumor, for two years while receiving treatment at Apollo International Hospital. Professor Chandan Mahanta was among the founding members of IIT Guwahati and left a mark on both the academic and scientific communities.
His contributions extended beyond the classroom and laboratory, as he served in various key roles within the institution, including Dean of Students Affairs, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, and oversight of the Centre for Environment. Colleagues, students, and friends remember him not only for his scholarly achievements but also for his mentorship and dedication to advancing knowledge and research.
