Potholes On Road In Guwahati’s Rajgarh Adding To Commuter Woes

GUWAHATI: The worsening condition of roads in Guwahati’s Rajgarh area, near Sainik Bhawan due to potholes and broken patches, has become a source of frustration and concern for local residents.

Potholes, uneven surfaces, and waterlogging in a small stretch along the street just outside Sainik Bhawan is making commuting a daily ordeal.

Frequent waterlogging of these potholes has further exacerbated the problem. Pedestrians and two-wheeler riders are among the worst affected, often struggling to navigate the hazardous conditions.

“This road has become a nightmare. It’s difficult to walk or drive, and the situation worsens during rain. Despite several complaints, no action has been taken,” said Biju Das, a Nabin Nagar resident, while talking to GPlus.

The road’s poor condition also poses significant safety risks. Several minor accidents have been reported, particularly involving two-wheelers losing balance on the uneven surface.

Talking to GPlus, R. Kalita, a resident of Rajgarh, said, “I was out to get daily groceries for my home and while returning through that stretch, I encountered a minor mishap in the form of an accident. My vehicle slipped on the broken stretch of potholes and I lost control, ultimately falling down. Many others have also complained of the same.”

“It has been months since the situation is like this and no repairs have been done or initiated by the authorities,” he further added.

A source in Dispur told GPlus, "The Public Works Department (PWD) is not receiving funds for road restoration as resources are being allocated to other projects."

The same source revealed that road restoration across Guwahati, damaged by projects undertaken by GJB or PBGPL, is also on hold for similar reasons.

Meanwhile, residents continue to face significant inconvenience due to the damaged roads, with no clear timeline for when the situation will be addressed. How authorities plan to tackle this growing issue remains to be seen.
