New Roads, Bridge Open Near Guwahati's Barsapara Stadium To Ease Traffic

GUWAHATI: With the upcoming IPL matches set to bring heavy traffic around Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday inaugurated the improved Radha Govinda Barua Path, Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Path, and a newly constructed RCC bridge over the Mora Bharalu River near Barsapara Cricket Stadium.

Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Path, stretching 7.39 km, connects Barsapara Stadium to NH-27 near ISBT, providing an alternative route for commuters from areas like Fatasil, Kalapahar, and Colony Bazar. The RCC bridge will allow easier movement between the two newly upgraded roads, helping visitors access different entry and exit points of the stadium without major traffic hurdles.

The project, completed at a cost of ₹14.74 crore, comes at a time when Guwahati is preparing to host IPL matches, which usually lead to traffic congestion in the area. The roads are also expected to improve access to educational institutions and hospitals along NH-27.

Guwahati, the second home ground of Rajasthan Royals, is set to host two IPL matches at the ACA Stadium in Barsapara. The first match will take place on March 26, featuring Rajasthan Royals against Kolkata Knight Riders, while the second match on March 30 will see Rajasthan Royals facing Chennai Super Kings.
