The facility has been introduced as part of a broader effort to enhance sanitation standards in trains and ensure a cleaner travel experience for passengers. It is the first such initiative in Indian Railways aimed at improving the upkeep of bio-toilets through in-house production of bacteria inoculums.

The plant was established on April 16, and it has enabled NFR to independently produce around 2,000 litres of bacteria inoculum daily at a significantly lower cost. This facility supports the functioning of bio-toilets, which operate using bacterial decomposition of human waste, reducing dependence on external supply and strengthening the existing onboard sanitation system.

As part of this initiative, over 35,000 litres of inoculum have already been distributed across various NFR divisions. The adoption of this in-house system also supports the long-term maintenance and reliability of train sanitation infrastructure.
