GUWAHATI: In a strategic move by Rajasthan Royals' head coach Kumar Sangakkara, Assam cricketer Riyan Parag has been elevated to the crucial number four position for the ongoing season, following the international successes of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Dhruv Jurel.
The 22-year-old Parag, who first donned the Royals' jersey in 2019, has been a key player for the franchise, initially serving as a finisher. However, his improved work ethic and consistent performances in domestic cricket have earned him a promotion up the batting order.

Parag's promising start in the new role was evident as he smashed 43 runs off 29 balls in Royals' recent victory over LSG on March 24. Sangakkara, elaborating on the decision to promote Parag, emphasised the player's overall game and the need for him to have a more significant role in the team.
"We looked at how he performed over the years. It is a difficult thing for someone like Riyan who has an overall game to only get the toughest parts of the game," said Sangakkara, highlighting Parag's versatility against both pace and spin.

"The biggest change we have seen in him is his maturity and self-awareness. All of that has changed in Riyan," added Sangakkara, noting Parag's growth and evolution as a cricketer.
With the examples set by Jaiswal and Jurel's successes, Parag has shown renewed hunger and determination to excel. As he settles into his new role at number four, all eyes will be on Parag as he strives to make meaningful contributions to the Royals' campaign in the ongoing season.
